Selected stories of Sherlock Holmes

Author: A.Conan Doyle

10/10

The book contains serveral selected stories from the Sherlock Holmes series, including:

A study in scarlet

The sign of the four

The hound of the Baskervills

-Short stories-

A scandal in Bohemia

The speckled band

The red-headed league

The adventure of Silver Blaze

The adventure of the Musgrave Ritual

My favorite three stories are: A study in scarlet, The sign of the four, and A scandal in Bohemia.

A study in scarlet is the first story in the Sherlock Holmes series, when Dr. Watson first met Holmes. Before I read the story, I thought Holmes was probably a really dark and negative person, but I war totally wrong, he seems to be very energetic when he's into something. He knows nothing about politics, astronomy, philosophy, astronomy and literature, but is an expert in chemistry, geology, sensational literature(every horror/crime committed in the century), and botany. He loves and plays the violin very well, can play singlestick, he's also a boxer and swordsman. Holmes is very tall (at least 185cm, judging from what the book said) and strong man.
The sign of the four is quite frightening (strange, in a way) in the middle, where a person died because one of the poisonous needles was shot into his neck bu a blowtube, but the poison made his face muscles twitch and turn into a hideous grin(that part is disgusting)... but it goes smooth in the ending.
A scandal in Bohemia was boreing to me at first, but after reading a few pages I found that it's actually quite interesting. It's about a king who needs to get his photo back from Irene Adler-an actress. After meeting Adler Holmes always mentioned her as 'The woman', because of her intelligence.

I enjoyed this book a lot, always wanted to read it and now I finally finished it. My father is bringing the whole series of Sherlock Holmes to me from China in October, I can't wait to read the other stories.
