I didn't really enjoy reading this book, but it's very short, so I finnished it.
The story is about a boy named Gaylen, he was an orphan, in front of the king's castle, so the prime minister adopted him.
Then when he's twelve, the king told the prime minister to write a dictionary. But no one agrees on what to write for 'Delicious', so they gold Gaylen to go around the small country (with only four towns) and toll what the favorite food is.
Gaylen was riding his horse through a forest, and he bumped on a tree, then this woodwelder jumped down (how is this possible???) and told him about the old times. Then the queen's brother-Hemlock-against the king so he started to spread rumors that Gaylen came to the towns to ask the favorite foods, then the king will not allow anyone to plant that food/crop.
Then Gaylen found dwarfs hiding in a cave, and they told him that there's a mermaid in a lake, so he set off finding the mermaid. Then he found Hemlock trying to build a dam to stop the water from going through the towns, and people will thirst to death, so if he give them water, they will do anything-including killing the king.
Then Gaylen found the mermaid and told her to break the dam, because he has something she desired to have, so the mermaid agreed.
Then the country was back to normal again and people lived happily ever after...
I didn't like the book, because I don't like fantasies, I don't believe in dwarfs and stuff, but I like to finnish a book when I start to read it, so I finnished it anyways.
